- 28th September - Yorkshire Three Choirs' Festival Silver Jubilee
2006 sees the 25th Yorkshire Three Choirs' Festival, returning to St Peter-at-Leeds, Kirkgate, where the first festival was held in 1982. The choirs in question are those of Ripon and Wakefield Cathedrals and Leeds Parish Church (pictured right). This year's festival celebrates the centenary of the appointment of Sir Edward Cuthbert Bairstow as Organist of Leeds Parish Church, and is also the sixtieth anniversary of his death. The Festival Programme follows:
- Thursday 5th at 8:15pm Gala Organ Concert by David Houlder
- Friday 6th at 9:00pm Compline by Candlelight by the LPC Choir Gentlemen
- Saturday 7th Three Choirs' Day Choirs of Leeds Parish Church, Ripon Cathedral and Wakefield Cathedral join for a Festival Eucharist at 12 noon, and a Festival Concert at 3:30pm.
- Monday 9th - The Festival Concert is repeated at the Leeds Parish Church 1:05pm as part of Leeds City Council's Lunchtime Series

- 14th September - North Wales Music Festival
Running from the 16th to 23rd of September, the North Wales Music Festival is based around St Asaph's Cathedral and includes a number of organ-related events, including a recital by Wayne Marshall. Other famous names performing at the festival include Evelyn Glennie, Julian Lloyd Webber, Catrin Finch and The Sixteen. I wish I could be there! See their website for more details.
- 13th September - The Pope on pipe organs
Pope Benedict XVI was in Regensburg, Germany today to bless the refurbished organ of the Alte Kapelle, now to be known as the Pope Benedict Organ. The pontiff took the opportunity to draw an analogy between the pipes in an organ and the members of a church, showing a perhaps surprising understanding of the nature and purpose of pipe organs in churches. - 12th September - New Ahrend organ in Calgary
A team from German organ builders Ahrend has recently completed installation of their first organ in Canada, a new 17th century style organ in the Eckhardt-Gramatt Recital Hall at the University of Calgary. The university is holding a Festival and Symposium to celebrate and inaugurate the new organ from the 22nd to 30th of September. The university is also now offering degrees in organ performance, and a new organ scholar position. More details on this website.

- 6th September - Fifth Mikael Tariverdiev International Organ competition announced
Details of the fifth Mikael Tariverdiev International Organ competition have recently been announced. Named after the 20th century Russian composer, it has been held every two years since 1999. The 2007 competition begins with a selection round in Hamburg (May), in Worcester, USA (June) and Moscow (August). Subsequent rounds are to be held in Kaliningrad from the 2nd to 8th September 2007. Details of the competition and its history can be found on the competition website - look for "in English" if you don't read Russian.
- 1st September - Toulouse les Orgues
The 2006 festival of organ music in Toulouse runs from the 29th September to the 14th of October, focusing this year on Spanish organ music, with some additional connections to French Canada. An up-to-date version of the full programme can be found on the festival website - look for the English Version link towards the bottom left of the first page if your French is "pas bien".
