• land Organ Festival's 30th Anniversary
  The land Organ Festival celebrates its 30th anniversary this year with a celebratory programme of recitals. land is a group of islands between Finland and Sweden, with about 25,000 inhabitants and sixteen pipe organs. The Web Editor recently visited land's capital Mariehamn, and heartily recommends the festival to anyone who can travel there. Fares from Stockholm are very cheap, and this is the best time to visit the islands. The festival runs from the 27th of June to the 3rd of July 2004, and you can find details of the concerts and organs of land at the Festival website. • Johan Sundberg honoured with ASA silver medal
  Johan E. F. Sundberg, who has studied the acoustics of organ pipes since the 1960s and has specialised more recently in the study of singing, has been honoured with the Silver Medal in Musical Acoustics by the Acoustical Society of America. The medal was presented at the Society's conference in New York at the end of May 2004, which also marked the ASA's 75th anniversary. This medal has only been presented seven times, with previous recipients including Max Matthews and Thomas Rossing.
  
  Johan built his first (and only) organ as he completed high school. Being in a hurry, he initially connected the action without thought, resulting in the key order being mirrored! Johan founded the Music Acoustics Research Group at KTH (the Royal Institute of Technology), Stockholm in 1968 and led it until his (nominal) retirement in 2001. He continues to be a prolific author and researcher.
  
  
• New organ at the University of Texas
  Canadian firm Wolff and Associates will shortly build a new $1.5 million instrument in the Winspear Hall in the College of Music (case design pictured right). You can find more details from the University of Texas website, and view some of Hellmuth Wolff's previous work here.
  
  
• New website: Organs and Organists Online
  Organs and Organists Online is a new website including well-illustrated features on various organs as well as a collection of recordings for download. Members can also upload their own recordings for distribution. We look forward to developments on this site, which you can find at www.organsandorganistsonline.com.
