The appearance of both instruments is Italian in style, with doors enclosing the Brustwerk, but the tonal style of the mechanical action instruments is more northern European in inspiration. 38a is tuned to Kellner's Bach, a mildly unequal temperament, and replaced an Estey reed organ. The Brustwerk Flute 2 and Cornet III share a double draw stop, with the Flute playing alone when the stop is half-drawn. After his opus 38b is completed, John Brombaugh will depart for Europe to document some historic instruments, and a chapter of organ-building in Eugene will close.
