This second volume in the Urtext edition of Boëllmann's complete organ music contains the two organ suites (the first of which is better known as the Suite Gothique), two sketches and the Fantaisie. There is little to say about the Gothic Suite, but the second Suite is a revelation and deserves to be much better known and played than it is. Perhaps it is time for organ recitalists to bring it out from the shadows of its older brother. The two sketches and the final fantasia are also worth adding to the repertoire of anyone of ARCO standard and above. The editorial notes are outstanding, and include detailed information on this short-lived composer and the instruments with which he was particularly associated.
