E-flat minor presents a somber opening for this 11-minute piece. Sumptuous, sometimes 'jazzy', harmonies dominate as well as a lot of fast moving accompanimental figures. It is in free form, fantasy-like, and generally light in mood despite it somber but melodious opening. It is not difficult on the ear, nor the technique assuming a good grade 8 standard. It does contain a significant allusion to the Widor Toccata half way through!
