The Preces and Responses require preparation which might seem out of all proportion to their length. One of the problems is to make each sequence of tiny fragments unite into one piece. The principle challenge of this set is the changes in tempo and mood, not to mention textures and melodic shapes. A choir will need conviction and a sense of drama to achieve a satisfactory performance of a most interesting set.
