Approximately half of this excellent disc is taken up with arrangements by David Mooney of traditional Irish hymn tunes. The style is easy on the ear, and the writing well attuned to the voices. The disc begins and ends with Gregorian chant, and there are fine solos from Diarmuid Sugrue in Fauré's Pie Jesu and Handel's I know that my Redeemer liveth and Mendelssohn's O for the wings of a dove. The longest single work is the delicious Missa brevis in F (Hob XXII:I) by Joseph Haydn, with subtle accompaniment from the Orchestra of St Cecilia. Highly recommended. DB
