Widor Symphonies 1 & 2

Joseph Nolan at the organ of Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral
ASV CD DCA 1165
72'15"

Joseph Nolan is an impressive soloist and his new recording of Widor's first two symphonies has much to commend it. The Organ of Liverpool's Metropolitan Cathedral certainly has the range of tone and texture for the works, and the acoustic is broad enough to give a suitably French feel.

My only concern is that there are a large number of versions of these works available at present and while one may want to hear this soloist and / or this instrument - and if so the recording can be recommended - there will surely be few interested listeners who have not got other, equally good, recordings of the works already.
