Bonbons for organ 2 - Martin Setchell

The Reiger organ in Christchurch Town Hall, New Zealand
Atoll ACD 603
72' 41"

This is a very eclectic programme ranging from Sousa to pieces by Paul Spicer and the English-born recitalist himself. The Reiger organ sounds harsh, as it gets louder with very artificial-sounding reeds and pale flutes. The title very much suggests that this is a tourist CD. The playing is accurate but I find that many of the pieces are compromised by the choice of instrument - for example, the Bach/Ernst Concerto in G. The booklet is covered with cartoons and tasteless photos. GMS
