This is a useful reference work that concentrates on musical terms and their definition rather than their history. Over 2500 definitions are included. The explanations are clear and concise, though almost inevitably, the treatment of some terms is skeletal – as for example the definition of Renaissance. The book will nevertheless be useful for schools, teachers and students as a quick reference tool for a wide range of terms that occur regularly in music. At the price, the work is good value too, though there were times when I needed my reading glasses to see the text clearly! Recommended.
