The first three chapters discuss Franck as student, organist and professor organ, with many contemporary references to the man and his approach to composition and performance, especially of his own works. Chapter five is a discussion of the organ of St-Clotilde, the Caraillé-Coll organ that so influenced Franck, with chapter four being a general study of the organ-builder's work. Chapter Six is a translation of parts of Tournermire's book on Franck and seven concerns the former's recordings. There are several fascinating appendices, including accounts of Franck's organ playing and a series of reminiscences by his contemporaries.
